Ghat Ki Guni with heritage rich buildings on both sides, is the only eastern entry/exit of  jJaipur. It is accident prone. Traffic pollution is damaging the heritage in 2km serpentine length of congested route with steep gradient. This is concern both to govt of india and govt of rajasthan. Growth of jaipur towards NH-11 is blocked. To find the solution, this tunnel is proposed.

An official of Ghat ki Guni Tunnel Project said”Once the tunnel is constructed, a systematic traffic plan will be drawn up. The Transport Nagar underpass will also be constructed. The tunnel will be opened for heavy vehicles. Jeeps, cars and two-wheelers will pass through the underpass”.

Those who travel on Jaipur -Agra road and facing huge inconvenience due to traffic jams can soon heave a sigh of relief as the Ghat Ki Guni tunnel project is likely to be completed on time.

With the completion of project by June 30, 2012, aimed at providing an alternative to the narrow Jaipur-Agra Road here, traffic jams will be greatly reduced in the area. At present, heavy vehicles, cars and jeeps all pass through the narrow road passage at Ghat Ki Ghuni.

Executive engineer Sanjeev Kumar Jain said, “As per the detailed project report, in first year, nearly 4,500 passenger car units (PCUs) is expected to ply on the route per day day”.

Every year traffic increases in the city by nearly 10%. The tunnel will help in the smooth passage of vehicles and once it is opened, almost 2,800 metres could be covered in just eight minutes from one end to the other crossings in Jhalana Hills.

The toll plaza has been constructed on the Jawahar Nagar end and heavy vehicles passing through the tunnel will have to pay fees, whereas there will be no toll fee for vehicles including jeeps and cars.
